Can a hurried Quilter ever be a good Quilter?

My answer today is NO! Here is what I did this morning.

For some reason I no longer remember I actually decided to leave the long extra backing fabric on my quilt sandwich. Probably to avoid cleaning off a space in my sewing room to cut it. But I remember making a decision Anyway, I bought some tailors chalk yesterday based on the useful answers on my last post and chalked in straight lines. It was quick and fairly easy. Right now I recommend chalk lines . I got up early today, Saturday, to quilt. All was going well and I thought let’s get that corner done before breakfast. I sensed something wrong ,but those chalk lines were calling me. Lo and behold, I sewed that extra backing up into the quilt. Ugh.

I don't rush my sewing/quilting. For me it's the proverbial, "The hurryier I go the behinder I get."

Nope. I don't hurry with my cutting fabric, piecing, or FMQ. I'm too much of a perfectionist to be in a hurry & make a mistake.

When I first started reading, I was afraid that you were going to say you cut something off, which would have been awful. I think we've all made one of those mistakes and that feeling you get...sheer horror. At least you can rip this out and fix it.

Been there a lot. Especially when I was doing the Shriner quilts. Straight lines are easier to rip out especially along edges than curly cues. Thats your silver cloud. I find a single edge razor blade between the backing and the batting will clip those threads pretty fast.
