Default The eleven o´clock meal "Amaiketako"

Good morning everyone in the forum, yesterday I could not communicate in the forum because I was all day in Bilbao and at night I was quite tired, so today I am going to tell you one of my storeis that I hope you like and get to know each other a little more. Today´s custom is about our taste for food and the gathering of friends and it all started with our custom of good food,, at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, the workers from the countryside they brought food for the middle of the morning, they called it "Amaiketako" translated the eleven o´clock meal, because they did not return home untill 3 or 4 hours, and that was gradually increasing and they did it in the factories, offices etc, and here we are in another century and that custom has become so great that now in any bar you can eat a small meal that we call "Pintxos" and that all the people who visit us have liked and it is something essential to try on any visit that be made to the Basque Country. Rosario,
This the most delicious pictures and great tradition that will not be tossed aside. This is exactly my kind of food. I definitely have to get DH cracking on getting to experience this while we both can.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Every day I try to do one thing that challenges my comfort zone.

Looks yummy. Do not see a trip to your country any time soon. I would love to travel there.

Are pintxos the same as Spanish tapas? Everything looks delicious.

Hello Angelica, Spanish tapas are a kind of dishes with things as varied as serrano ham, octopus, meatloaf, tenderloin and many other things, but "pintxos" are sometimes fried breadcrumbs in oil and sometimes natural that you add the typical products of each area and season, and in my country we simply take from the bar and eat it although with so many people who visit us at the bar they give them some dishes to take the one they like the most and then pay those who have eaten. Karen if it is very nice to sit on a terrace and enjoy the company of friends , in Spain it is very common and practically all our bars have a terrace even in big cities
