    FWIW, here are my calculations
    5 inch squares sew into 9 patches and cut into 4 squares yield 6.75

    Assuming a 9 by 9 row and column quilt for throw size. You will need 81daughter squares so 21 starter nine patches. You’ll have 3 orphans here.

    The 1 color corners will require 84 5 inch squares . Assuming a yard gives 56, you’d need about 1.5 yard to get 84. I’d buy 1.75 for mistakes
    The other five colors require 21 5 in starter squares. Assuming @40 inch width, you’d need 15 inches of each to get that with a few extras.

    I always buy at least 5 inches width more than I need for mistakes.

    That's one of the nicest things about the forum!! Everyone is so nice and gives a lot of information that most likely otherwise a lot of us might not know some of the things people post on here. I think it's great that so many of the forum members do things like this. I've learned so much for those of you that have been quilting much, much longer than I have!
