Default Ideas for baby quilt, gender unknown

I need to make a baby quilt but they aren’t going to find out the sex of the baby. Looking for colors and pattern ideas. Thanks

Experts say that newborns react to black and white first. I have done several that used black with white prints and white with black prints. I also like to throw in small bits of solid, bright primary colors. One I did was a Jelly roll race with 2-1/2" solid bright squares between the B/W JR strips. I also have done several that were disappearing 9 patches - using alternating B/W charm squares with a bright colored solid in the center position of the 9 patch before cutting.

I've made a few of the baby blocks quilt from Jenny's tutorial with some 30s fabric. Added a border with pieced 2.5 inch squares. They were always well received.

My go to is a disappearing nine-patch, primary colors with a creamy white or soft green / yellow and white.

I made this one for a friend's niece. It is black, white, gray and turquoise. Click image for larger version.

We had one mom at our church who never wanted to know the baby's gender until birth. I used greens & yellows in one quilt. Something else that works well is to use a panel & add borders of your choice. Most of the panels now are only 24" wide, so they need something added to make them crib size. Something with ABCs & animals works well. I made one cute quilt out of some Dr. Seuss fabric. Browse the M* panels; there are many options out there. Feel free to look through my albums; I've made a lot of baby quilts.

Search the Internet for free crib quilt patterns.
I always use bright solid fabrics and combined
with bright prints in red, green, orange and purples.
This color scheme works for all babies.
These crib quilts are always fun to make.

Warm Wishes is a nice, quick pattern: http://www.silverneedles.org/MiscDat...hescribMPE.pdf

It shows a quilting diagram, but I like to stitch in the ditch on all seams when it is a baby quilt because they get washed a lot!

i go with a simple design and primary colors. If i see novelty fabric I like, such as jungle babies or woodland animals for example, I will use that with coordinating fabric. Iv'e used plain patchwork, D9p, take 5 etc. for the pattern. Also a pinwheel is nice.

Is there a theme that they are doing for the baby's room? That might give you an idea for something to make.
