Jelly rolls

The tutorial is using jelly rolls. I have decided I am never making anything with jelly rolls. I hate the pinked edges and things just don’t turn out for me.

You can cut your own strips or buy the pre-cuts from Jordan Fabrics. Matt hand cuts theirs so the edges are nice & straight. Don't give up on JRs; they make great quilts.

another trick is to cut each jelly roll in half if your pattern will allow it. That way instead of sewing 40+ inches together you are sewing a shorter length - just doing it twice. Even if you can't cut it exactly in half, you can usually figure out a place to cut each strip before sewing. I found this helped me.

Lorie - I also had trouble with the 3 dudes pattern. Mostly because my GF bought a jelly roll, and then we decided to make it a queen/king size. All I could find was yardage which worked well, but this skewed the blocks which I had to wiggle to play well with blocks made with jelly rolls.

There are plenty of other tutorials to choose from.

I started quilting using a lof of Cozy's Strip Club patterns.

I'm working on a quilt now with an Island Batiks jelly roll and was happy to find there are no pinked edges with this brand. All the strips were cut perfectly. Pinked edges are annoying.

Lorie is so right. This little gadget is an absolute must have! If you don't have one go to a dealer and get one before you sew another seam!
