USPS question

I'm thinking of selling some fabrics in my Etsy shop I had a million years ago.


Can you send a first-class pkg through the mailbox? If it's in a poly mailer?


I'm not driving at the moment and I could fill out a pick up slip, but wanted to know if I could bypass that.

Hi Lorie,

You can; you just put the outgoing package in your mailbox and raise the red flag.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, raising the red flag for the postal carrier also seems to be an invitation for thieves. They see the red flag, they come get your outgoing mail.

Use the priority flat-rate mailers. They are free to get, and a set postage rate for as much as you can cram in..

Depending on the weight of the item(s) to be mailed, sometimes it's cheaper to use standard priority mail instead of flat-rate.

Very true, but if you want easy, its the way to go. And you really can stuff a LOT in one if you try.

can u actually stuff the priority mailers? i had a bubble small envelope and had some patterns in it. too fat, had to change to larger non bubble one. sigh.

I had one come like a literal ball. I wish I took a picture of it, because it was rather amazing the P.O. actually let that through.

I buy poly (no bubbles)bags on ebay and won't go over 1st (13 oz) class for a long time. I have the backdoor link where you can print out 1st class with a tracking # if anyone needs it.

Pack em down and stuff em tight. If it will close and not burst seams, it goes.

If shipping form your home and printing your labels either through pay pal or USPS, you can request pick up, and the carrier will come to your home to pick up your parcels. I used to do that all the time when I sold fabric, and sold on ebay. You can stuff padded flat rate poly mailers as full as you can get them. They will hold up to about 8 yds of fabric.
