I am a big fan of the Strip sticks too. Clover also has a couple handy tools, the Iron Finger and a Precision Stiletto. They are both heat resistant and you can use them to seams open.

I made a strip stick from 2 pieces of quarter round. I made a casing with batting and an old silver ironing board cover. It gave me a little more top surface than a dowel rod.

The recent Hexified class used the Clover Roll & Press with excellent results. Might be useful!

Oh Jocelyn, now you've got me wanting BOTH of those!
Toni ... If I keep sewing long enough, will they make their own dinner?

Sorry Toni LOL! I have had the strip stick for about 4 years and only used it about twice.

Thanks All! Lots of good ideas here. I had never heard of strip sticks before. Finger cots and finger pressing are good ideas, too.

I use my strip stick all the time and have almost worn it out. When a LQS closed last year and marked prices way down to liquidate their inventory, I bought two more--one for me and the other for a gift for a quilty friend.
