    Default How many layer cakes...

Will it take to make a queen size disappearing 4-patch?
    Thanks in advance!

    Quilter's Rules:
#1 Buy fabric - no matter how much you already have.
#2 Sew all day and all night - no cooking allowed.
#3 Start a new quilt before the last one is finished - must return to #1.

This info from an old Missouri Star pin on Pinterest: "A standard layer cake has 42 pieces of 10 inch fabric.
    1 – Twin quilt
    2 – Queen quilt"
So I guess the short answer is 2, but idk if it makes any difference the pattern you are doing. I am not a good math person so maybe somebody else will come up with a different answer.

When I saw your name on your post I was feeling sort of sorry for you cause at first I thought your name was "sewmuchtoclean"-- that would be sad huh.

I got this on web: Just two 42-piece layer cakes will create an 85″ square quilt using a 9-by-9 layout of the 10″ squares!
Blessed are the children of the piecemakers for they shall inherit the quilts!

Are you planning on using the layer cake for background also? If not, you will need yardage instead of the second layer cake.

And if 2 layer cakes are not quite enough, then borders are your friend!

I found this tutorial using a layer cake and some yardage. This quilt measures 75x90. Maybe you can use this as a guideline.

Thank you. I'm not a math person either, and I knew I had seen the info before.

You'd need about 1 & 1/2 print layer cakes and the same amount of background fabric to make a disappearing four patch into a queen size.
