    BMB Results

I just thought I would let you all know my Bone marrow Biopsy results aren't what I so desperately wanted. It sais Indicates remission has not been achieved. Granted there is a tiny amount of the hairy cells still in my marrow as compared to 70% that was in my first biopsy. I am hoping and praying the biopsy was done to soon.
I am throwing my local oncologist to the curb after his repeated dis concerning attitude about several things during this nightmare, But the one that broke the camels back was when I ask him on Oct 2nd (biopsy oct.8th) if I should keep my October 21st appointment to get my biopsy results he threw his hand up and said, " I tell you what;If you haven't heard from me in 2 weeks after your biopsy you just assume you are in remission." Well I lost it. I yelled (IN his face no dought) "NO!!! You are not going to do that to me after everything I have been through!" " I want to hear it out of your face!" "Somebody is going to tell me I AM or I am NOT in remission". "I am not going to assume anything!" He backed out of the room and sent his nurse in to talk to me. She agreed with me 100%.
I am normally a quiet laid back kind of person but not that day.
Oh yea and He hasn't called me yet about my results. My GP pulled it up yesterday during my physical and printed it out for me. I am waiting on the specialist in Nashville to call me with an appointment.

Needless to say I am a bit upset.

And you have every right to be upset! No Doctor, especially an Oncologist, should ever expect you to "ASSUME" anything! I would have gone off on him too, and probably let him know that he was the "ass" in "assume".

I'm sorry you didn't receive the results that you (and everyone else) were wanting yet. And I'm stressing the yet part, as I am believing that those results will come to you, maybe not this go round, but they will come. Keep believing that and keep strong! We are praying for you.

Good for you for telling off your doctor like that! I don't blame you at all for looking for someone new. As far as your bone marrow test, i am sorry that it did not show you are in complete remission but it sounds like it is improving and creeping in the right direction. You know you can come here and vent any time.

So sorry to hear such disconcerting news. You had every right to yell at the doctor, with his 'not my problem' attitude. Pretty sure I would searching for a new oncologist. Will continue prayers for complete healing and remission.

If all you did was yell, he made out better than he would have made out with me. I think I would have slapped him you know whatless. Dag gum, the C is bad enough, you didn't deserve his attitude. Notify the office manager or who ever is in charge of the drs in that office.

When Mike was sick, I left his first oncologist. Take the child in, xrays, spinal tap, does he tell me the child has pneumonia? NO. He didn't. I didn't find out until we went back to the pediatrician. I never took Mike back, we drove all the way to Winston Salem, to Baptist Hospital.

You go and find another doctor, and tell them up front what you expect and what you won't tolerate. Your job is to focus your energies on getting better, not placate an unprofessional boob.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I've learned the hard way that you have to be your own advocate when it comes to your health. Good luck with the specialist!

                  Re: BMB Results

Right out of the gate I was referred to a specialist in Nashville Tn who I did see. I really liked him. He set up the treatment and my (so called) oncologist here at home done the treatment the specialist had ordered. I emailed the specialist today ( I had only seen him one time) and told him I was not comfortable letting Dr. XXXX monitor my care and I would like an appointment with him asap to see where I need to go from here. Within an hour his office called me and made an appointment for Thursday THIS WEEK. I was shocked I got in so quick. I did not tell him I had my results yet. I am sure he got my record before he called with an appointment.
Please pray that the chemo is still working and I don't have to go through chemo again.

Thank you for letting me vent.

I've worked with some fantastic oncologists, and also with some who made me shudder. Bedside manner and the ability to communicate compassionately are so incredibly important. I'm glad you fired the local guy; he deserves it. I hope you get some answers when you go to Nashville. And know that you can always vent here.
