Help me re-create this log cabin

Hello friends, I saw this cool quilt on Pinterest but when I clicked on the page it said website no longer available. To me it looks like:
    1. Logs are 2.5 inch strips
    2. The navy stars? One 2.5 inch square then surrounded on 2 sides with hst
I have never seen ac quilt like this so I am just guessing how the stars are put together. What do you think? I have no idea what this finished out at but it looks like it would be pretty big. Thanks for your help.

I think you are correct in how it is constructed.

What I see is that the last two strips (one white, one blue) in each block are snowballed to create a quarter of the star. Of course I'm looking at it on a really tiny screen though.

The sashing stars are like Jenny did in Under the Stars.

Last year, I made the Eureka quilt by Jackie Robinson, which contains similar stars. They were made by snowballing the corner of the log cabin strip before constructing the log cabin square. Some of the snowball corners used a square of fabric and the others used a rectangle.

Clearly, I have not figured out how to post pictures. Sorry that it's upside down. This pic was taken before sewing the blocks together.

The quilt you posted would finish at 84" x 84" if you use 2-1/2" strips.

I enlarged it full screen and saw what Carolyn T saw. However it could be done with HSTs and I think that would easier for fudging strip lengths and matching intersections.

Check out Eleanor Burns log cabin stars book. I made a log cabin star quilt, different layout, with her pattern and it's really simple.

Re: Help me re-create this log cabin

Well, this is what I would do.
Construct log cabin as usual except for 3 last strips, 1 white 2 blue.

                  Snowball white strip
                  Snowball 1 blue strip

Trim 2 Nd blue strip to width of current block
Snowball both corners in \/ pattern
Add width of strip squares on either side

                  Proceed with log cabin construction.

                  Thanks. This was fun.

That is the way I see it when I enlarged the photo. It would be a lot easier to do it this way than making hst.

I like to draw my long cabins on squared paper and I think that quilt is a normal long cabin simply the las rows have the addition of the star in another color and normal stitched like a plain row, I hope it is understood and here it is my patterncabaña troncos.jpg

That is brilliant. I think there is another way with 8 diamonds creating the star but that needs sashing to achieve it ...I think.
This is so much easier - thanks for the info

It looks to me like the stars are in the double sashings. I would try the Marti Michell Sashing Stars set to recreate this. I have her wonky star template for sashing that I just got, so I haven't used it for real yet. But the markings on the tool and the instruction booklet looks very clear to me. I just have to arrange my blocks and get going on it.
