    Default MY SEWING CABINETS.....

The time for me to straighten and reduce some of my stash had come. I have worked the last week sorting through only the fabric in my cabinets, the closet and under the beds are still awaiting. I don't function well when things are too messy.....though it doesn't bother me if messes happen when I am sewing because I know I can straighten things when I'm done. It had come to the point that I couldn't find much of anything and what I had was scattered and stored in odd places. Here are a few pictures...

Cabinet #1 are blacks and grays; pinks & purples; green & teals.
Cabinet #2 are browns; blues; and orange/rusts.
Cabinet #3 are cream/white-on-whites; red; part of my precuts.
Cabinet #4 are special grays; batiks; border fabrics for WIPs.
Cabinet #5 are solids; holiday prints; yellow/golds.
Cabinet #6 are 1930's repro prints; 108" backings; juvenile prints.

Behind what you see are comic book boards wrapped with fabric. My cabinets are quite deep so I was able to fit in a double row. I need to add a Kaffe Fassett cubby but I've run out of room! This project doesn't even touch on UFOs, other cabinets and fabrics pulled for other future projects. The little red kitty quilt was made by our Miss May....still loving it!!

How do you sort your stash????

I have two tubs of Christmas fabric. I really need to get it out to just look at to figure out some projects to use it for. Most of it was from Sherry's and Melinda's Mom's stash. I didn't purchase it, and frankly some of it's in colors I don't really like. Some of it is in fabrics not really appropriate for quilting either. I just look at it and put it back in the boxes.

I have a tub and a half of batiks.

I just need to get that Tula Pink book of blocks out and start making some blocks to see what happens. Scrappy is good, right?

Nice job! I too must have my fabric sorted and
organized. I have metal open baskets on
runners so they pull out for easy access.
I sort my fabrics by color. When I need
red fabric I can go to the red basket.
I clean up after sewing so my sewing
    room is always organized.
    Happy Piecing/Quilting!

Oh my goodness Barb! Your stash has grown in leaps and bounds since you got those cabinets!! And it's all so pretty and organized.

I organize my stash by holiday and then by color. Not as dialed down as most people. I don't have my larger scraps sorted by color, but in bins and such. Precuts are separate and have their own area :-)

My whole stash would fit on two of your shelves! Those cabinets are so nice and heavenly to look at. I wouldn't ever want to leave the room. You did a fantastic job organizing everything. I would like to see a before picture, did I miss that?

Really beautiful, Barb! It's so beautiful, that it's inspiring.

My stash lives in four big tubs and the eight cubbies in an IKEA Kallax bookcase. The four tubs contain UFOs, and I keep a list of what's where in a lovely notebook that was a favor from an M* retreat! The Kallax has one bright yellow tub each for Jelly Rolls, charm packs, layer cakes, thread, and ironing tools. The lower right Kallax tub hides a paper trash bag for trimmings. It may sound organized, but it's really just a way to hide the mess. Please don't peek inside the tubs!

Oh i see that someone else has the hobby of buying and collecting!! I am diligently trying to work down mine... hence all the scrap quilts and stuff i work on constantly!..LOL
Besides the stuffed bins under the quilt frame i am still happy with the CBB system i came up with a few years back.. i love being able to see what i have at a glance..

This is so pretty. The white cabinets compliment every fabric you have. Nice place for inspiration. Happiness is in the everyday little things =)

While packing for moving out of my house and putting most items into either storage, to the auction or trash, I went through a lot of my stash and sorted out what I didn't like any more, what I have never used, etc. and donated to my quilt guild's comfort quilts. The rest is in storage, except for some that I need for various projects I need to complete over the next three months. I will need some good ideas for storage in my new room when I move permanently.

Barb, your cabinets are beautiful. Where did you get them?

Well done Barb! ***** I'm the same, can't function when things are messy.

I have mine organized as you do by colour, but it's a small walk-in closets. I would love to have walls to put cabinets along. Not that it's in our future, but I would trade my 2 sewing rooms for a large loft any day.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Every day I try to do one thing that challenges my comfort zone.
