This recipe sounds so delicious! Here's a dumb question though, do the jars need to be refrigerated or only after they are opened? I am thinking the apples might go bad?

Looks good. Same question here as Jocelyn. I will definitely try this one.

Can they processed in a water bath to keep longer?

I stick my jars in the freezer as I don't want to "can" them. I would imagine you could just like any other butter recipe.

I would say maybe 15ish. I was surprised it wasn't more. My crockpot could have handled twice as many. But one of the things I like about this recipe is it doesn't make so much. With just two of us we don't need quarts and quarts like I used to make.
