    Default Dresden coin star quilt

I was thinking of making the Dresden Coin Star quilt. She says it takes a little over 1 layer cake. So should Or could I use one layer cake and have it a bit smaller or should I purchase a second one and make it bigger or have a lot left over. One person said they had enough left over to make 2 pillows-thatís a lot.. It says itís 76x80 so guess I could go a bit larger. Hum

If you're planning the backing or border fabrics, you could consider buying a little extra of that (or a fat quarter or two) and just adding additional 10" squares of your own to be used for the top so that it coordinates with the border, binding, backing more than if they were done in a fabric completely separate from the line of fabric in the layer cake itself.

I've increased the size of a double slice by adding yardage from two solids and a print FQ to a layer cake before cutting them all up and piecing it together.
