    what is this ?

We bought this house last year. SSAM_7615.jpgeveral previous owners in a row were dedicated gardeners. However I appreciate gardens more so then design or grow them. These plants came up and I have no idea what they are. They now have pods. The ants and flies love this plant. Can someone tell me what this is ? Jack wants to cut them down, he thinks they are weeds.

Looks like Okra, a vegetable......lots of recipes on line.....I love the stuff fried.....not boiled. Used in gumbos, etc.
Did it have really pretty flowers? Okra does.
.....or it could be a weed.

    Okra...

I think it's a milkweed, a favorite of monarch butterflies.

The monarch was circling there all morning. All good reasons not to weed it out.

Milkweed. Eventually the pods will open and you will have white fluff flying around.

Common milkweed. Important to pollinators and monarch butterflies love it as a food source. Lucky you! https://www.wildflower.org/plants/re...?id_plant=ASSY

A garden tour guide recently explained to us that the milkweed plant is critical for migrating monarchs. So if your husband can find it in his heart to keep the plant, he will be contributing to beauty in the world!

Milkweed sap is dangerous to small children. Make sure they wash their hands after playing with it. Makes me wonder how I ever survives childhood!
