I have been sewing my entire life but find quilting is so much more than sewing. I recently joined my church quilt ministry and found that I feel totally inadequate. I need to take some classes. Have been watching YouTube and I am seeking any help possible to I can be an asset to my group.

Thought this forum would be a rich source for help.

Welcome Janet to the forum from Canada. I have always sewn clothes, home decor but stumbled into quilting about 4 years ago. It's very different especially 1/4" consistent seams. I took a series of classes in the beginning to learn the proper techniques and to gain the confidence by having a teacher present. I would suggest this. YouTube is ok, but they are not created equal, and could teach you bad habits.

Hi from SE KA. The best way to learn is to do and ask lots of questions. Everyone here is very friendly and we love sharing. There isn't a question that hasn't been asked and we all learn something new from listening to each other. If you have a quilt shop close you might see if they have a free sew along day. Then you could get hands on, looking over your shoulder help.

Hello Janet and welcome from Wisconsin. This is a great forum and everyone here will reach out to help you with any aspect you have questions on. My advice is pick a simple pattern of squares and rectangles and get started. Watch some of Jenny's videos. She makes everything look so easy and fun and she is the Queen of shortcuts.
