Default Wednesday Trivia: Egyptians ❤️ Watermelon 🍉

Ancient Egyptians loved watermelon. We know because watermelons were depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphics and watermelon seeds have been found in ancient tombs, including King Tut's.

Although watermelons originated in the Kalahari Desert region of southern Africa — and the sweet ones we eat today came from West Africa — they'd reached Egypt at least 5,000 years ago.

I love watermelon! I'm glad it's found it's way to the USA.

I love watermelon & canteloupe. DH puts salt on his. I've tried it. It brings out sweetness.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Every day I try to do one thing that challenges my comfort zone.

My Father was Scandinavian and he put salt on his watermelon. I never got used to doing that.

I sprinkle salt on watermelon, honey dew, & cantaloupe. It definitely brings out the sweetness. My dad was not Scandinavian,, but I learned it from him. He was some German, English, & PA Dutch. The flavors of the melons also are better if they are sort of at room temp. instead of chilled right out of the frig.

Yup, salt on all my melons as well. That's the way my grandfather ate them, and my mom and dad.

Love chilled watermelon on a hot summer day! Brings back some very fond childhood memories!
