    Default Need Opinion...Which One First??

I finished the beach quilt top except for the hand embroidery that I'm going to add. I will be putting the couple's names & wedding date in the sand in lower right hand corner.

My question....will be work best to do the hand embroidery first before laying & quilting (machine quilting on my sewing machine) or would it be best to do machine quilting and then add embroidery at the end. I could do the embroidery without going thru all 3 layers because I don't want lettering to show on the back of quilt.

I guess I'm thinking the lettering may get messed up while I'm FMQ'ing the quilt.

    Thoughts....opinions.....suggestions??

    Thanks.

I would probably do the hand embroidery first so you could go around it with the machine quilting. If you don't want to do that could you do the machine work and leave enough open so you could reach inside to hide your knots etc from the hand work? Either way, I would bind after the hand embroidery. Interesting quilt.

    It's beautiful!

I don't do anything that fancy, so I'm no help. I'm sorry.

I would definitely do the hand embroidery first. It would be much easier to do the embroidery before sandwiching the quilt. You could create a frame for the embroidered area with your machine quilting.
