Default Anyone make a quilted burp cloth?

Hi - has anyone made a quilted burp cloth? My plans are to use flannel and terry cloth, but there are a hundred thoughts on what to use in the middle layer. Some say cloth diapers. I'm wondering if I can use a piece of 100% cotton batting? What would you use? I think it needs a few quilted lines to keep all layers together, but I'm not seeing many that are quilted.

I've made many sets of these as baby gifts. I use flannel or cotton for the front and terrycloth for the back and have never used a batting in the middle. Once I sew around the edges I sew three seams down the middle along the fold lines. They hold up quite nicely.

Thank you, exactly what I was looking for! i just sewed a square together of the three layers, wet it, and i'm throwing it in the dryer to see what happens. It does feel a little thick, though. I was also wondering if just the two layers would work, and that is what you do, so that's helpful. I've also read where the cotton chenille fabric is a good choice, but it's rather pricey at my local store. I've not used terry cloth before, but i'm assuming there are some grades that are better than others. I'm definitely going to try just the two layers to start. Thanks again!

I don't add a layer of batting. I make mine out of flannel and fleece. The fleece absorbs liquids and doesn't feel soaking wet. Flannel absorbs. I simply serge around with coordinating thread. No quilting needed.

Ok thank you, I think i'll try this method as well. I think I just need to make sure whatever fabric I use is absorbent and not one of those where the liquids kind of slide off. thanks again!

Good use for worn bath towels. Just cut out the worn bits.

Is there any type of bottom layer that is leak proof? Like vinyl? Or what they make plastic covers for the cloth diapers.

Before burp cloths, we used folded over cloth diapers, which are not leak proof. I make my burp cloths out of flannel, which I have cut into FQs. I sew RST on 3 sides, leaving 1 end open, turn inside out, then hem the opening & stitch all the way around 4 sides. It makes a good size. New moms love them.

Yes there is. It's called PUL Waterproof Fabric. I've used it for bibs but not burp cloths.
