Sammy Joe Bird passed on this morning at 11:15 am. We got up and found her on the bottom of the cage at 7 and got her up and she drank some water. We played for a while and then took turns holding her and talking to her about our happy life together. She fell asleep in my lap while I rubbed her throat and soothed her with her favorite songs. We will miss her. 33 years is a long time to have someone in your home, eating meals with you and sharing your space. DH and I are not handling our loss very well. It is a sad day but we are glad she isn't sick anymore. We buried her in our family plot and I will get a stone painted with her name on it in a few days when I'm not so overcome with emotion.
My sister's mate called today and asked for permission to send my mothers ashes to be put next to my sister as well. Funny how life just goes on with lots of twists and turns.
Thank you for letting me express my grief with you, my friends. I texted all my children and all of sent their sadness at the passing of Sammy. Some expressed the sentiments of her being a family member for as long as they remembered.
