Default What's cooking at your house for the 4th of July celebrations?

4th of July is my favorite holiday and we usually hang by the pool, grill and have some yummy sides and desserts. Sometimes we'll have a big crowd and other times it's a small bbq. I'm always looking for a new recipe to impress my guests. Later we'll go out to see fireworks in our town; I have a red white and blue quilt for sitting on the grass to wait for the show to start.
Hope you all have a safe and Happy Independence Day

I mix several different cans of pork and beans together in a casserole dish and bake them for about 45 - 60 minutes, when the top gets bubbly they are done. Everyone thinks I made them from scratch. There are so many varieties of pork and beans with so many flavors that you are sure to mix up a tasty pot of beans.

Since it is just us this year we are doing a pack of pork backs on the grill with some beans frozen after a Memorial day event.

We are going to our son's house. I may bring a corn salad, easy and quick to make. You can use fresh or defrosted frozen corn, mixed with halved cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, basil, sliced black olives, and you favorite dressing. I usually use a red wine vinagrette. Mix it all together and chill.

DARN!!! I went to store and bought the corn, feta, basil, cherry tomatoes, and FORGOT the black olives. Wonder how it will be without them?

Nothing special here, just a lot of quilting. DH is working 7 am to 7 pm and the kids are all camping so I will be working on finishing M-I-L's quilts. already have 2 smaller one completed and with 3 days of no interruptions I should be able to get a few more finished.
One yard of fabric, like one cookie, is never enough!

Well Trudy that sounds like a pretty awesome day to me! I sure wouldn't mind being left alone with my quilting all day long!!! It's just dh and me for the 4th. Our weather has been so cool (60's) and rainy this summer we haven't cooked out once yet! So tomorrow I will be pulling out the grill and it's Italians plus potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, and vanilla custard (a kind of ice cream) with fresh strawberries for dessert. Happy 4th everyone! Hope all of you with dogs manage to survive the noise from the fireworks and your pets aren't too traumatized.

Turns out it will be just me and hubs for the 4th so we're going to make bbq ribs. Baked beans will be the perfect side and we've got lettuce from the garden for a salad. Miss May, our neighbor makes baked beans in her crockpot and adds kielbasa. It's very good. My grandmother always used canned beans and she "doctored them up" in her words, with brown sugar, garlic and onion powder, some finely chopped onion, a dollop of Gulden's mustard and a chunk of butter. She never measured anything.
    Still haven't decided on dessert.

It will probably be just another day on the farm here...grass to cut, hay to haul, etc. No extra cooking will be done unless someone other than me does it!

I don't have any plans yet. Maybe some hotdogs on the grill, a lot will depend on how hot it is going to be.
