Default Big Big Mistake on My First Log Cabin Quilt

Hi all...need advice. I purchased two log cabin quilt kits to make one big large quilt (I did kits because everything was already cut to length).

My problem started after I finished the blocks. I wanted to square them up. I read the directions on what size they should be and it said 9 5/8" "after sewing" which I took to mean after I completed the square. So...I trimmed one block down to 9 5/8" and then decided that's not what the directions meant. I could be wrong, but the square just looked small. So now I have 1 block at 9 5/8 and 23 blocks at whatever size they are...I'm guessing a little over 10".

I really do NOT want to cut the other 23 blocks down. Is there any way to fix this? I have some border fabric that matches, but it doesn't match all four sides. I cut off about 1/4 inch on each side.

Please help. Y'all are the experts...I'm not. I've been making quilts for about 3-4 years but I make easy ones like Jelly Roll quilts with the occasional semi challenging quilt peppered in between the easy ones.

Thank you in advance for any adivce.

Okay, not a true disaster. Why don't you find 4 strips of fabric that are in the same colr group and stitch them onto your cut square. Then trim it to match the other squares and just put it in an outside edge where it won't be front and center. Chances are good, you are the only one to notice this.

I agree with what Terry said. Just add to the cut down block as best you can. If anybody notices it is different you can always say you included a mistake to show humility before God because only God is perfect. Or tell them it was a deliberate test of their observation skills and they passed. Everybody can have a good laugh.

Maybe replace the outer 4 strips if you can and for sure use that block on the outside row.

Terry, good answer! I think that will work as long as it's in the same color.

Clair's solution is much better. I just never think of ripping out, but that would certainly be the way to go. I'm a pretty slouchy piecer.geterdone mode most of the time

I was thinking use some of your extra border fabric for that one square and use it as your center square of the quilt, as a design choice.

Are these recent kits? You may be able to get a little more fabric from the store/vendor. The options mentioned would work too. Good luck!
