    Default Quilt too long?

Good morning all knowing quilters...quick question. I finished a jelly roll quilt top last night and I think it's dimensions are off. It could be that I cut each strip in half when I probably should cut some in half and some in thirds and I sort of "winged" it when it came to cutting off some of the fabric of the end strip so the seams wouldn't line up.

My question is...it came out to be 44 x 66, which makes it long and narrow looking. Should I shorten the quilt to make it more lap style and if so, how much should I cut off?

I would just add borders to two sides to widen it a bit! Pretty blues and yellows.

Your quilt is pretty and should be fine at that size. The width is approximately 2/3 of the length so all is good. You can always add borders as suggested. Love to see an audition of possible borders-perhaps 5-6 inches. Hint...hint.

The long strips add to the illusion of length.

I think it's a perfect size for a lap quilt just as it is. It's up to you if you want it bigger or not.

I like it and wouldn't cut anything off. You can always add borders to the side and I like a long lap quilt so my feet are covered when they're cold.

    lovely fabrics
my question is what size were you aiming for?

it looks good the way on bed, you could add borders as suggested or even pieced boarder like piano key style, or pin wheels, flying geese.
or you could un sew at 44 inches and use the un sewn part to extend all round
add more fabrics or not its up to you, there is no right or wrong answers.
    happy sewing

Thank you everyone for the suggestons...it's very helpful. I'll have to stare at it for a couple days to make a final decision. I kinda like it as it is, but I do have the fabric to add borders so....we'll see.

Thank you again...as always everyone here is so helpful!!

You know...I love strip quilts. It's the very first quilt I ever made...the jelly roll race. I'm not really sure what I was aiming for or why I even cut the strips in half...it was a snap decision. Not sure I'll do that again. LOL
