    wash before binding?

I have been working on fmq a quilt and have marked it with the blue pounce pad. Most of it has brushed off but there is still some remaining.
I have serged the outside edges and want to wash it prior to binding. Will this be OK?

I like to iron my binding as I wrap it around to the back of the quilt and know that is a big no no with the blue pounce marking.IMG_0823.JPG

I don't see any problems as long as you have serged the edges and they're secure. I would just be sure to use a gentle setting. Have you already cut the binding? if not, I would maybe toss the yardage in with quilt, to prevent shrinkage at different rates.

But hey, I'm no expert, so maybe someone else will pipe in with suggestions.

      Is the binding already washed?
      If yes, then go ahead.
If not, then don't. Wash after binding.

Thanks folks, I have already cut, pieced and pressed the binding. It is ready to go on so I guess it will but without any ironing involved.
I had not thought about them perhaps shrinking at a different rate. Glad I asked beforehand.

Thanks so much, I am still struggling with my fmq but this turned out pretty well.
I got one side of the binding sewn to the back last night, the other three sides will be done one night at a time so maybe get it washed next week.

Claire, I think your question has been answered, BUT I have to comment on your beautiful quilt...FABULOUS!!!! I am in love with your fabrics, your design, and OMG, your FMQ. Truly beautiful! I think you have come a long way on your FMQ and I am a bit envious. I keep thinking I am going to really work at mine, and I keep procastinting….I am having some lack of motivation issues.

You might try some spot cleaning to remove the remaining pounce

                      Re: wash before binding?

The pattern was torn from an old magazine Quiltmaker Spring/Summer 2008, I have no idea where I got it.
I did decide to use 2 1/2" hst instead of the 2" ones the pattern calls for and used cornerstones that were not specified. It is a carpenter's star done totally with hst. The border is also hst in two rows alternating prints and background. It is made from lots of 30s reproduction prints plus odd and ends.
