Denim Snowball Quilt from Block Mag

My next project is going to be the Denim Snowball Quilt from the Block Magazine. When buying fresh unused denim, would you suggest washing first? Because of how denim is known to bleed in the wash and how this pattern calls for 3 different shades, I don't want to be surprised with a mess after all the work is put into it.

Also, what type of thread would you suggest?

    Thanks in advance, Mora

I would washthe denim fabric, especially if you might add denim fabric from clothing.

You could use a 50 weight cotton thread, although I think a polyester thread might be stronger for denim. No real wrong answer, your choice.

I would absolutely wash it. It may fade and also shrink.

I would go to a thrift store and buy newish jeans, you will find a variety of blueness and you will save so much money! But if new I would wash first. The main reason I would not go with new is that it is so stiff.
