    Default 1930s or 40s ?

    Hello Everyone …
A week or 2 ago there was an ad in another province near to where my son lives. The ad said for free , a 1930s or 40's quilt top. There was no photo on the ad, but I asked my son to see if he could get it for me. At that price I could not lose in wishing to save something someone quilted so long ago. While I received no response to my reply to the ad, my son did. He said the little old lady who came to the door was easily in her late 80s. She couldn't remember if it was the 30s or 40s but she is very happy a quilter is taking the quilt top. He took a phot of it and I will enclose them here. I am not familiar with quilts from decades ago so any comments are most welcomed. I plan to have my son take a thank you note and a box of chocolates to the lady who owned it.

Beautiful. I guess you will be able to tell when you see it. If she made it long ago, the fabric was probably cut using a cardboard template. What a great find.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Every day I try to do one thing that challenges my comfort zone.

I see fabrics from both! I am guessing it was probably made in the 40's with fabrics from both decades. What a treasure!

ETA- I am not an expert, so take it with a grain of salt ;-)

eta2 - I keep looking at the pics and the fabrics. I see some that I think may be even later - even into the 60's but not sure of course. Whatever they are, it is so special that you are able to save it. Hoping that someone with more knowledge of fabric dating sees and comments on this post.

What a great story and that old lady's heart must be full knowing it is going to a good home. Maybe you should hand quilt that one. Anyways your gesture of the note and the candy is so nice.

I am planning to hand sew this , it will also allow me to be aware of every little part of the fabrics . I am still so surprised that an old quilt top in the Ottawa area was not for sale, rather than free. Thank you for the feedback. All the quilters I know in person live too far away from me. This forum is wonderful, I find when I make a cup of tea , this is where I go to enjoy it. So many beautiful quilts and people here.

It's going to be beautiful all finished. Knowing it's going to a loving quilty home would mean the world to me!

Its beautiful I can see the square in a square right off, but also can see the stars they make and the little hour glasses that come together at the joins, wonderful.
