    Default Palliative Care

Today my daughter and I took some quilts I had made to the Palliative care floor at the VA in Birmingham. I have a soft place in my heart for our Veterans and their families. A lot of families live to far to go home each night and want to spend every moment they can with their loved ones. I was fortunate when my husband was there that I could go home at night. I have seen people sleeping on the floor in the family room and in the floor beside their loved ones beds. They keep the rooms on the chilly side.

I have tons of charm packs not sure why but I do. I found this pattern of Jenny's that is super easy, fast and takes 2 charm packs and some yardage. I added and made a few changes to the pattern to use what fabric I had. This makes the perfect size quilt for someone that is trying to sleep in a chair. They are not really fancy quilted but I hope the families can use them and it was great long arm practice for me. They let me hand them out to the families and believe it or not I had made exactly the number for each patient's family to have one.

I believe when God speaks to our hearts and we listen, we'll never be lacking what is needed at that time. What a true blessing your act of love was to those family members.

It is comforting and encouraging to see others caring for Veterans . Not too often you hear of someone caring about their families. On behalf of one who is married to a soldier, my heartfelt appreciation. Being a quilter I know the time and work and expense that goes into a quilt. I also know that that often times stitches are more than threads, they are moments of good energy, prayer, optimism etc. even memories when the quilt is made for someone we know. The comfort in a quilt is more than a physical one. I am quite touched by your kindness .

Your quilts are all spectacular and thank you for donating to folks going through such hard times. They will all sleep well under their quilts tonight and every night.
