    It depends on the look you want for your quilt.

    Sometimes, I like the binding to sit on the edge and be quiet. Other times, I want definition to the quilt edge and a pop of color for a grand finish.

    I use very similar methods as Squeaky mentions. I am careful where the final join is going to end up on the quilt side. Like Goldilocks, the binding has to be "just right" for me. Yes, I will re-pin the binding if needed.

    PS: The label is sewn onto two corners of the back so the binding edges cover them. The label is secure and only two sides to hand sew.

    Apparently there are more folks than I thought who machine sew their binding, front and back. Yay! I'm not the only one.
    I had to give up hand sewing. I, too, find it works better if the binding doesn't clash with the backing and I can use a blending color thread.
