Default Patriotic Quilt made from scrap bindings

A friend from the LQS gave me a bag of 2 1/2" strips. As it turned out, almost all the strips were patriotic. Because they were ironed in half to use for binding I had to open all strips an iron them flat. I was going to make a few tote bags so I cut two squares of muslin 17" and started sewing the strips on the muslin diagonally. After I got done I thought they were too pretty to make into a tote bag. I made two more 17" squares and cut all into 8 1/2 " blocks, put them with some red and white four patches, sashing and cornerstones and this is what I came up with. The size is 50" x 70" which I think will fit the top of a twin bed. It will be donated to the Veterans Nursing home.

That turned out great! Gives me ideas for a similar quilt. I have lots of binding strip left-overs. However, I do not press mine in half.

What a wonderful creation and a great gift to one of our unsung heros.
