Default Did your doorbell ring today?

Does anyone else remember making May baskets, filling them with flowers you stole out of someone's garden, hanging them on a neighbors doorknob, ringing the bell and hiding'?
We usually made our baskets in grade school, weaving paper strips or folding paper cones. When I lived in San Diego we had wild nasturtiums and carnations to fill them with. When we moved to Colorado we usually could only find dandelions, but if you picked enough they mounded really pretty.
I 'm sure we made the older peoples day and we had so much fun. But I don't think the kids do this anymore. It's a shame.

I thought of those May baskets, too. We made them in grade school. And yes, the only flowers I had available were the dandelions in people's yards.

I think of that every May 1!!! I loved to do that when I was little.

In Hawaii, May 1 is Lei Day. That is how I always refer to it now. Here is a picture I took on a trip to Hawaii...…

What fun! I have never heard of making May baskets. My grandchildren would love this.

I remember mom talking about the May pole but not baskets.

J wanted to get flowers for me at the grocery store one day. Morgan told him she'd find out what kind of flowers wouldn't make my allergies act up. Jim was standing there when she asked, he blurted out faster than lightning ... Silk!

Never heard of that, but oh what a lovely thing to do. I do remember the May Pole dance....never got it right, but loved it.

I would be very upset if someone came into my yard and stole my flowers I would be even more upset if they damaged my flowers in the process of stealing them which would be very likely if it was children in a hurry who didn't know how to cut the flowers to minimize damage.

If you want to gift someone with flowers, pick flowers in the wild or purchase them from a store. Stealing them from someones yard is not nice.

I've never heard of this. Probably because we don't plant our flowers until late May and the tulips and bulbs don't come up until after May 1.

A cute idea, and definitely more thoughtful if the children picked the dandelions.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Every day I try to do one thing that challenges my comfort zone.
