Sorry to hear that Joy. Do I remember that you are a nurse? You will be invaluable to help the rest of the family understand the problem.

Good Afternoon ~ Just now getting here. Didn't have time this a.m. As far as I know, Brad still is in the hosp. He didn't sleep much last night. Whoever can get decent sleep in a hosp., anyway! This a.m. his B/P was 139/108. That 108 is not so good. He was due for oral meds. at 10 a.m. & they would monitor him. It sounds like they will have him see the neurologist after discharge to determine any problem with the syrinx.

Yes, I am a retired registered nurse. During my career, I worked in a hosp. rehab unit for 10 yrs., so I've seen the results of untreated hypertension. So many of the stroke survivor patients, esp. guys, were in that 35-55 age group. It's important to keep the B/P is a decent range.

Thanks for all the prayers. I'll update as I get info.

Woo hoo! Brad is out of the hospital! I just got off the phone from talking to him. He wasn't feeling well yest. a.m. at work, had a slight episode of dizziness, & went to the nurse. His B/P was VERY high! She said he needed to go to the ER to be checked out -- either someone needed to drive him, or she was calling an ambulance. His boss took him & stayed with him a while at the hosp. It was a long stay in the ER -- from ~11 a.m. till almost midnight before they took him up to a room. He was at George Washington Hosp. in D.C. A VERY busy ER! He was on the heart monitor all night on the cardiac unit. They let him go home this a.m. He's on a B/P med. & a diuretic pill. The dr. said he needs to exercise 30 min./day, 7 d/wk., so I guess it's back to the treadmill. He used to jog & run half-marathons till his knee started bothering him. He went home with no activity restrictions. He has a B/P mach. on order from Amazon & will be tracking his B/P. The nurse at his work told him, "You've been given a gift today." It was a wake-up call; he now knows he has a problem & will be taking care of it. So many times hypertension goes untreated because people have no symptoms, or the symptoms are so subtle they blow it off as something else. Thanks again for the prayers.

Oh i'm so pleased he is getting help. It will take awhile though. Every time i visit a Doctor my pressure goes up. I just tell them it will go back down. 189/79 or so was my last reading. odd but true. Wishing Brad good health. he can do it!!
