Default The top is done..or is it ?

    Hi

My lone star top is done. or maybe not

It is 69" by 69" and the width is fine but I think I need it to be a bit longer to fit my bed.

I am a bit stumped on how to proceed. I am thinking about using my light background fabric and the leftover star fabric to make smaller lemoyne stars at the bottom or top to make the quilt longer.

What do you think + Got any better ideas ?

At least Tilo gives it his approval !

I like your idea of making it longer. I would potentially add the extra border to top and bottom or just bottom if not needing both.

Tilo has great taste! Your lone star is gorgeous! I have no better idea, other than adding borders to the top and bottom. I’m sure others will have some great ideas for you. My, it’s a beauty!

Your quilt is great. Adding a row of stars and/or wider borders at the top and bottom should help get the length you need.

I don't know how you pieced your gorgeous quilt top so FAST!! It would take me weeks to do that. You do incredible work, Annika. I remember when you were a beginner....you are certainly an expert now.

Actually I would leave the quilt the way it is and use pillow shams but if you have to make it longer, just add to the top and bottom. In my head, Lone Star quilts should be square. Good Luck with the quilting.

I'm in agreement with Bubby. I almost think additional borders would detract from your gorgeous quilt. I have a feathered star quilt that is also square. I lay mine diagonally over a solid colored quilt.

Your quilt's beautiful. As you set it on point, can you continue the little squares further on the top and bottom so that they form points to make it longer? I don't know the words to use to explain it better. It would be like a chevron.

I like this idea best for adding length.

I would increase the length by using more of the squares. That way you still keep the focus on the star.

Thank you all for your kind words and tips.

I decided to make a test block, both with 2,5" strips and 5 1/2" strips to make a star test block.

I quickly made up my mind that it would not work. I am leaning towards your idea to let the colored squares just extend until I hit the right size.

So I will have to shelf the quilt until I can get more fabrics and since I just paid for car repairs it will take some time.

Meanwhile I can always practice fmq on the test block and get myself a placemat or wall hanging.

So I prepped it for tomorrow's exercise !

Here is a pic of the bigger block. about 12 " without the dark border.
