Default 10" layer cakes not quite 10"

Anyone else experiencing 'short' 10" squares in the layer cakes? Specifically, i have the Sweet Pea and Lily which is so cute but the squares are not 10", almost 1/4" short in some cases. I'm wanting to use 5" squares with the chevron pattern but am only getting one true 5" square out of one piece of layer cake. Very frustrating!

This often happens with pre-cuts. Always measure! You may have to square them up & make your blocks slightly smaller, but uniform. Just be consistent with the size.

yep, i think i'm going to have to go with 4 1/2" squares, which is a little tough since i'm making the half square triangles for that chevron pattern.

This is my huge complaint with precuts. They ask a premium price but don't give us a premium product - not when the pack is often not all uniform in size. Still, I love my precuts and use them often, but that means I accept that I will have to measure them all and if too many fall short in size, probably all will have to be cut down (depending on the pattern I'm using).

Contact the manufacturers! Timeless Treasures has always made good with any issues I've had with precuts. You won't know if don't try.

I was wondering about that...if it was appropriate to complain.

I've learned not to press my precuts with starch. It made my squares shrink half an inch!

If manufacturers are using die cutters/machines to make precuts, I wonder what is causing the inaccuracy. Is the fabric being stretched when they layer it up for cutting?

If the pre-cuts have pinked edges, some manufacturers measure from the peak and some measure from the valley of the pinking.
