    Default Flannel-backed quilt

Can anyone offer thoughts/experience on backing a cotton quilt top with a light flannel backing? Do the two fabrics work together ok? And how do they handle the wash -- do they pull against each other or shrink/stretch differently?

I use flannel on the back of a lot of my quilts. I do not prewash my fabric but do prewash flannel. I have been very happy with the results.

I use flannel on the back of baby quilts. I love the feel of it.

I have backed a lot of quilts with flannel. And like Hailey said, I prewash the flannel. Now flannel will fray a lot, so I use my serger and serge the raw edges before washing it.

Flannel backs are warm and cuddly. This is the backing used for all Victoria quilts. The flannel is prewashed. Assembly is beautiful and no more challenging than cotton backs. We wash all quilts before giving them, and there is no issue.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Every day I try to do one thing that challenges my comfort zone.
