    Default overage

When patterns tell you how much backing you need does that take in account the overage for longarming?
    Thank you

    That's a great question.

For me, I always buy extra, since I usually use the backing for the binding and I make matching pillow cases.

I add an extra 6 inches or more on all for both backing and batting. It's my understanding that the extra wiggle room is much appreciated by the kind folks that do the long arm quilting and not usually included in the pattern instructions.
