    Dry French Onion Soup Mix

This recipe came from one of those little cookbooks Betty Crocker & Pillsbury used to sell. I use the mix in other recipes.
    3/4 c instant minced onion
1/3 c beef flavored powdered instant bouillon from jar
    4 tsps onion powder
    1/4 tsp crushed celery seed
    1/4 tsp sugar

Mix well store in container with tight fitting lid cool/dry place
    keeps for6 months
    makes 18 Tbsps about 1 c
5 Tbsps == 1.25 oz pkg of purchased dry onion soup mix

I use those little onion soup packs, this looks easy enough and no preservatives!

WAY too much salt in that bouillon!

All those bouillon products are now available in sodium-free.

I've made that for years but I started substituting beef soup base for the bouillon. Less salt and richer flavor IMO

Thanks for the recipe. I do use the packaged stuff occasionally, but I prefer to make my own. Get the salt level down and eliminate the sugar and substitute a natural sweetener. For extra flavoring I generally use Better than Bouillon which is a paste product. It does come in reduced salt varieties, but they still can be on the salty side. It has to be refrigerated once it is open, but for me it is a staple to have around and doesn't give recipes a "false" flavor.

Thank you, I will make this. It would be good for gluten free because the boughten has gluten in it.

Thank you for posting this recipe! It's so nice to find something relatively simple that stays away from the many ingredients I'm allergic to!
