Default Charged for a punch card

My local quilt store just charged me 1.50 for a frequent buyer punch card. I was surprised to say the least. She said it was because people don’t take them seriously enough if they are free and they would try to redeem more than one partially punched cards at a time.

Has anyone ever paid for a punch card before?

    NO!!!

That would only be reasonable if your $1.50 gets refunded when you redeem the card.

And why should the shop care if you turn in two cards, each half filled in? You were a loyal, if forgetful, customer!

No refund when you turn it in. I left there thinking about another lqs, farther from my house , but still localish. There punch cards are worth twice as much (30.00) and you get double punches if you pay cash and of course you don’t have to pay for the card. I think I’ll save the bulk of my future purchases for trips to that store. Better selection too.

They don't refund the cost? Unbelievable!

I do not understand how a small business could do something that is guaranteed to bother its customers. I'll bet you won't be the only sewist driving a bit farther due to the $1.50 policy!

So what's the benefit of the card?

The punch card at Cinnamons... if you forget it, you take the receipt in the next time, they'll punch it and mark it. Ask me how I know, says the lady that left it at home in her dresser drawer. It's in my pocketbook now!

I hope you didn't pay for the card before you left. That is just unreal. I get frustrated when I have to have a coupon to get the deal, I can't imagine what I would think if I got charged for the card. I have 4 punch cards for carwashes in my wallet. Seems I never can find it when I'm there. I also have two for bras and panties at a dept store. Too much to take care of.

I don’t understand the part about not taking the cards seriously. If you give a free card and the customer doesn’t use it when they’re at the store it’s the customer’s loss. If they think paying for a card is an incentive to shop in their store, from the comments here I’d say they’re making a big mistake.

That makes no sense! That is one punch card I wouldn't need.
