4 patch question

If I make 4 patches our of 5" charms, the 4 patch will end up 4 1/2".

I'm seriously thinking about making 4 patches for the center of the Garden Stars Block. I think it will be pretty with the Mayfield Indigo line. I have white for the back ground, light blue for the contrast. I'm looking forward to starting to work on it soon!

It will end up a 4" block when sewed into the quilt.

Won't the 4 patch be 9 1/2 inches square from 5" fabric?

I thought the same thing. Four 5" squares sewn into a block would not be 4.5". Did I read the post wrong?

Yep Spiff is correct. well if four five inch charms are sewn together to make a four patch. perhaps she is cutting them into four squares.....

I don't remember this tutorial, but from the video (didn't watch it all the way through) it looks like it might be a 4 1/2 inch finished square.

It will make a 4 inch finished square.
5 in - 1/4 (left side) - 1/2 (center seam) - 1/4 (right side) = 4 inches.

I agree, 4" finished four patch..

If you take a five inch square and cut it into four equal squares. Those little squares would be 2 1/2" unfinished. Then sew four little squares together, you would get a 4 1/2 " unfinished/4" finished four patch. Jenny is just showing a quicker way to make that four patch then the old way I just described.

Yes, it would be 9 1/2" unfinished and the finished 4-patch block would be 9".
