Default Would you do this to your cat?

I don't have a cat, my dh is allergic. But my cousin has one and sent me a photo of hers. She has been wanting to get her cat's hair cut in a lion cut for awhile and today she did. I think she is waiting for me to tell her how fabulous it is. I think it is horrible but I don't know how to respond w/o hurting her feelings. Is this a latest "thing" with cat owners? What do you think? Would you do it? I think the cat looks really weird now.

    That poor cat!

I'm allergic to cats, but I wouldn't do that to one unless it was a medical necessity.

We have an 18 old long haired cat who isn't able to groom herself so she develops terrible mats. She gets cranky when I comb her and it would be too traumatic to take her to the groomer (she'd have to be in a cage in a room with barking dogs). So when the mats get out of control I have to take her to the vet. There's a particular vet tech, they call her the cat whisperer, who is so good with our girl. I'm able to stay with her in the exam room where she gets combed and some of the mats need to be shaved off. They've recommended a lion cut, which I will consider in the summer. Too cold now. So there sometimes is a sort-of medical need for a cat to be shaved.

I saw a schnauzer cut to look like Eeyore, so I thought 'I can do that myself'.....

All i succeeded in doing was making him look like an ass and he did not come near me for about a week!

I am, well, not a cat person. But short of medical necessity—as chelea says—I can't imagine doing that to an animal.

But if you're looking for something to say to your cousin, maybe, "Wow. That's creative! did your cat take on a lion persona to match his new looks?" Neutral, but friendly.

My SIL had a cat that she kept groomed that way. Her DH was allergic, and the cat was allergic to fleas (they lived in Florida where even with flea meds, they're hard to keep under control), plus the heat. Three good reasons for the lion cut, and the cat actually didn't seem to notice that she looked different. And she actually was quite cute.

I would think the cat would be humiliated. One time I clipped the birds wings and felt so guilty I never did that again. I wonder how this woman would feel if someone took her and cut her hair into a mohawk without her permission.
Oh well, people do the darndest things to their animals.

You could also say: oh how interesting! I’ve never seen anything like it.

Personally I think it looks awkward.

She'd be a really beautiful cat with ALL her hair.

btw, almost forgot..... I think I'd say something subtle like "OMG WHAT IS WRONG with YOU, that's GOD AWFUL"
