To those that have made a storm at sea quilt....which pattern is the easiest way to stitch? I have seen paper piecing, and some with directions that seem more complicated than they need to be. It does not seem to be a block that can be strip pieced. I have some beautiful purple fabric waiting for me to choose a pattern. All suggestions are appreciated..))

Re: Storm at sea
On the one I made a few years ago, I used a template for the diamonds in a rectangle. You can also use a template for the square in a square sub-blocks.

Re: Storm at sea
made own paper unit pieces, due to an upscaling issue.
if you work out your / the big centre square size draw that square then add the lines inside for the design,
the side units are half width of centre square but same length. so draw a rectangle and add lines inside,
finally the corner square is half length of rectangle but same width, draw square add lines of design.
then once all 3 patterns made photo copy, 3 rectangles cut and stick 2 onto the page then photo copy amount needed,
again cut and stick squares onto a page then photocopy amount.
did the foundation paper piecing method, sewn on machine
( could hand sew on lines if prefer hand sewing)
used an add a plus ruler, to cut off the remnant over a 1/4 seam
my picture in gallery.
have fun.🧵Treadler from UK 👋

Re: Storm at sea
Marti Michell has a set of acrylic templates that work with her books to create a bunch of different blocks in several sizes. I made my storm at sea quilts with them. The fabric is cut into strips, then cut using the acrylic templates on the strips. 4 or so strips at a time can be cut making the process faster. I've used these templates for most of my blocks. They make cutting and assembly so much easier.
www.frommarti.com for the website that explains how the templates work. The books come with a set of full sized paper templates to try the process before you invest in the acrylic pieces.Be who you are and say what you feel

Re: Storm at sea
Here's a YouTube video sent to me by Creative Grids showing the two rulers they have to make the Storm at Sea block: https://youtu.be/34Wr8gFrV68. I ordered a Storm at Sea strip ruler from the UK. It's been discontinued in the US. It was less expensive to buy the strip ruler than the two newer rulers. Plus only one ruler to deal with. Here's a YouTube video showing how to use the SAS ruler: https://youtu.be/8oAr1WnhNAw
