    Scraps scraps and more scraps

Well my New Years resolution was to work on reducing my leftover fabric stash. I started working on these blocks about three years ago, and would get back to making more as my scrap box filled up. Yesterday I decided it was time to finally sew the blocks together and call this top finished. This quilt top represents about 50 quilts made over the past 4 years, and measures 72x80.

As I was piecing the blocks (totally random) I kept thinking this one was destined for charity, as no one would ever want this on their bed. But last night after sewing the last row together and giving it a final pressing, I laid it on my bed, and realized, I really liked it. And once I get it quilted up, it's MINE!

    I'm calling it "Chaos!"

p.s. I still have close to full box of scraps (not to mention left over strips, charms, 10" squares, and FQs - it never ends does it?)

Re: Scraps scraps and more scraps

I'm getting ready to go into one of my Christmas fabric boxes. All kind of left overs, and gifted fabrics are in there. I'm not sure many really go together, but with the Moda String Challenge, I'm sure I'll be able to create a little chaos myself. This is a brilliant idea! Thank you for sharing.

Love it! I have been making scrap blocks too, just not
making any dent in my scrap bin.

Great project. The top looks awesome. I've been thinking of the same thing.

This is so neat! I tried to make a block out of the scraps from every quilt I made/gifted, but fell behind. You did it! It's awesome!

I would keep it also because scrap quilts are my favorite. Your did an awesome job! Its fun to look at all the fabric and remember where each came from. I have quilts my mom made and they have fabric from things she made for me and my daughter and grand daughter.

I love scrappy quilts because they are all totally different. Yours turned out great. It looks fabulous on your bed and I am glad you decided to keep it! Congrats on the finish.

Scrappy is my favorite too. I don't know when the trend went toward such neat and orderly coordinated blocks. You're the best.

Re: Scraps scraps and more scraps

The scrap quilts while making them, Are deemed donate. But then while completing them, I am flooded with memories of what transpired or what was previously made with the scraps. And they do not get donated. The quilt becomes a memory quilt for me. And a keeper! Something happens between the first blocks and the binding....it is almost like an animal wandering up that you have no intention of keeping but feel sorry for it. You feed it. And now it is a part of you/family. Grows on you in a short period of time.
