Katrina, I use phone book paper. Works fine and it's free if you have a source.

Here are my first 4 blocks. I'm starting with a 1" burgundy strip down the center and ending each side with the peacock feather fabric. I just love string piecing!

Chelea I love the colors you picked!! I never made one of these either. Let's see if I got this right: It looks like it doesn't matter if each string is a different width but that the corners should be the same print where they meet all together in the center of the block?

There really aren't any rules! You can make your strings all the same width (no fun) but I like to have random widths because I like the wonkiness. Start with any size foundation that you want and you can sew your strings diagonally, straight across or any way you want. To control the pattern just a bit, you can choose one color and sew that down the center of your block, then build outward. This will result in a lattice look. If you also put a consistent fabric in the corners of the blocks, you will get a secondary pattern. You can go with one color family or go totally scrappy. It's just so much fun to play with. I love the wonkiness and the imprecision of it all.
Here's one I made with RWB. It was sort of busy, lol, so I appliquéd some navy blue flannel squares to calm things down a bit.

Thanks Chelea! I really want to try that. But not yet or else my Christmas tree and decorations will still be up at Easter LOL. Once I get started on something new I don't want to stop to do anything else! But it sure looks like fun and of course I have stash ready and waiting.

Wow you are getting so much done! I hardly sewed today. Still tired from holiday stuff! In recovery mode. Plus my dh and I bought a new car today and we were at the car dealer for about 3.5 hours. I forgot how long it takes to buy a car, and we knew exactly which one we wanted! All that paperwork. Jeez!!
