    I would echo in the 9 patches. In the X I would do some kind of feathering or circles in the chain, to give it movement
    Blogging ahead.....research in quilting and sewing with a dab of cooking/recipes too.

    Thank you everyone for your kind words and wonderful suggestions! I still only have half an idea of what I want to do with this, so I set it aside and worked on two others I will be giving to my niece's boys. The Christmas one is just for me, so there was no hurry to get it done. I will post the finished quilt once I make up my mind.
