Default PSA: Rotary cutters are sharp!

Just a reminder to be careful with your rotary cutter! Last night I decided to cut a few more pieces of fabric for some Christmas projects I'm working on. Somehow, and I'm still not sure how it happened, my cutter slipped and sliced my index finger. DH had just left to pick up DS from work. When they got home, we went to the ER where I got 5 stitches and an antibiotic. It's in a splint, wrapped in a bright pink bandage! It all happened so fast. So...please take care when using your cutter. I think sometimes I have forgotten how easy for something like this to happen. But...I am thankful it's my left hand and I'm right-handed, and it could have been much worse. The doctor was surprised that I didn't cut a tendon or nerves. So be careful - I wouldn't want this to happen to any of my other forum friends!

And surprisingly it doesn't take much pressure to cut deeply either. My cutter was laying on the table, opened (I know big no-no), and I just bumped it slightly, fortunetly it was my pinkie fingernail that got an instant trim and not flesh.

Happy to know no nerves or tendons cut and hope your finger heals quickly

I just recently started using the Fons and Porter Klutz glovebecause I think it is easy to do just what you did. I also do not cut after 9pm anymore.
So sorry this happened to you and hope you are on the mend soon!

Been there, done that! I let MM convince me I did not need stitches, however about three days later he said I really should have gotten them!! Yes, I know!!

I now use Kai rotary cutters, and on top of that, guards on my rulers. It would surprise me if I ever cut myself again.

Your accident makes cold chills run down my back. Also, I was taught to always close the cutter when I put it down, even if I was not finished with the cuts.

Ouch. Not a great time of the year if you are planning on cooking; that can be cumbersome. Hope it heals quickly and glad to hear no permanent damage done. I have the No Cutting After 9pm rule too.

Also please never cut fabric in bare feet. Don't ask how I know this.....
