    Default A very Organic Quilt

I started this quilt some time ago. The four patches in the middle are one of Jenny's tutorials, slightly tweaked... which became a medallion quilt. I used a Vintage damask tablecloth for the cream background and the colours are all the same pattern of a line available here in Aust.
Once the centre was done, then I decided I wanted an Irish Chain effect, so added them. Then thought some flying geese would look ok as the border. So it was a very Organic Quilt. Grew bit by bit into a finished quilt top
It's about 55" finished and backed with a floral fabric from my stash - used the same fabric for the binding.
This top sat about for a year or so, then when I heard a friend was diagnosed with a serious, terminal illness, thought she might like a quilt to take with her to hospital for treatments... so this became Amanda's quilt in my head.
I am not at all confident with quilting squiggly lines and using skills from a couple of Craftsy tutorials, took on the geographic quilting of this quilt. I learnt a bit as I went, and am really pleased at the overall effect. Once again, a very organic process in my head for quilting. I made up the patterns for the irish chain, then the flying geese. A friend helped me decide how to quilt the pinwheels, then I ummed and aahhed for a week about the negative spaces. (thank you Angela Walters), then the final pinwheel in the centre. I hope you can see the quilting in the photos.

Amanda didn't know I was dropping by to visit, let alone the quilt. Thought I'd like to show you all my efforts. Happy smiles all around.

It's beautiful and unique, much like your friendship with Amanda. I'm sure it will give her much comfort and strength, being wrapped up in your hugs during her treatments.

Every quilt is a learning experience (for me anyway) and I think you did a great job! Love the picture of you two together, you both look so happy.
