    hi
don't know why your friends machine is doing this but
    perhaps check:
the bobbin area is clean of fluff
the bobbins in right way or if the thread has rerouted
or the needle needs renewing over 8hrs of use,
are the feed dog teeth working
    then look at the tension
    hope this helps your friend

I would question if the bobbin goes with this machine.

My first thought is tension, then wondering if the machine is threaded correctly.

I had her change her needle, slight adjust to tension... its okay now. I guess she has her moms machine and did not know to change her needle... lol, what ever happened to Home Ec? I thought maybe she had it on ziggy zag.. and didn't know...

Well, we have to assume this not how it's been sewing all along. So, for the moment let's say she knows to thread it, wind and insert the bobbin, and has not had any really bad tension problem when changing thread type. So... something changed recently.
In most every case I've seen with skipped stitches, that just crop up outta the blue- it's time for cleaning up the bobbin area.

Don't know if your friend is able to DIY, but it's doable by almost everyone. Make and model would help in evaluating the ease of performing this task, or whether she should seek outside help.

I've told her that also... she needs to have it service and cleaned or at least remove her plate and clean it her self. Her bobbin may have been in backwards to... she really needs to learn her machine.

Looks like bobbin, clean area, oil bobbin area and watch tension. Is she sewing with the same bobbin thread as top thread?
