Dresden from charm squares

I watched Jennys jelly roll checkered dresden tutorial and loved it.
I didnt have any jelly rolls but did have a charm pack.
I sewed 2 charms together and when cut blades just made sure to put 5" mark on seam that joined charms. That way equal parts of each charm shows.
Its not as "checkered" but I love it!
The rest of instructions were followed as Jenny presented them.

That's a good idea. Sometimes we just don't have the right precuts for the pattern we want to make.

What I have found is that quilters are creative. Don't forget to show us the resulting quilt.

Never thought I'd make a Dresden Plate but had a few Christmas fabrics so made a table runner (never had a table runner before) making three plates. Using the Heat and Bond method for the circles, I found it easier to clip the edges using pinking shears. Also when stitching the blades together, I started half and inch down from the top, reverse stitched then stitched forward to the bottom. Had no thread "tails" poking out.

Yep , new ideas are always wonderful for quilts. I am short of fabric for the ribbon box quilt and am thinking of doing one or two ribbons with two fabrics sewn together lengthwise.

Yes would love to see it if you could post picture before I try this method. I've got lots of 5" charm packs to choose from.
I just don't have the confidence that most do. Afraid to think out of the box.

Wish I could post a photo but, although I keep trying, they just won't post. I'll try again. No. Not happening. So sorry.

Oh do give it a try, Linda Kay. It is quite the most satisfying way to make this design and fair zips along - before you know it there are the 20 blades in a neat pile. Try just the one plate for, say, a small cushion top. Afraid I became a bit tetchy when having to stop for food - just didn't want to stop.

Jenny's tutorials are very more ish.

Yay !! Thanks to a lot of encouragement, I had a little play with my camera and found something I didn't know it had. Won't bore you with details but think I've uploaded a photo.

The free machined holly leaves on the background in the corner of each block look a bit crumpled but the fabric contains a lot of manufacturer's size - washed twice but didn't soften. It wasn't expensive fabric - bought in a bundle of four fat quarters of craft fabric for about $10 at a hobby store rather than my usual patchwork supplier. It was destined for bunting not patchwork and I won't buy it again. This was a test piece for a possible quilt so I'm not that disappointed with it; it'll look ok on the table with candles.

Time for bed. It's gone midnight here in England.

That turned out quite lovely, and I think your test piece would make a beautiful table runner.
