    Default 9 patch madness ?

I'm going to start on my nieces 9 patch madness quilt. I have a question, why can't you make the half square triangles first, before you make the 9 patch?

Any ideas or am I just over thinking it?

The only difference (slight as it appears) is that by snowballing - the HST isn't exactly equal in color/white area. If you are placing it on the corner, it will overlap (the quarter inch seam) and when you sew corner to corner on white, it will cover a tad more of the color that way. Am I overthinking this?

Just watched the video and read the comments on YouTube.
Someone asked your question- Jenny said you can make the HST first but the
corner size will be different. Here is another reply--
If you line up the 5" snowballing squares with the outside corner of the 9 patch, the inner edge will extend past the seams of the 9 patch. The diagonal line will intersect those 9 patch seams 1/4" in from the side (so right where you want it to keep the points from disappearing later).

Thanks for looking further down the tutorial. I didn't even think about looking at the comments. You just saved me a step!
