    Default Please help me decide.

I am trying to decide on how to quilt this. I want to use my walking foot, (so no fmq ) and had anticipated doing an edge to edge pattern of very gentle curvy lines every 3/4". I initially thought I would do the lines vertically but I am now concerned that as they will be vertical, and the ribbon columns are also vertical, they may clash/compete with each other and the whole thing look a real muddle? So then I thought perhaps I could do the wavy lines horizontally? What do you think? Any other suggestions perhaps? In the pics I've posted I've placed my bendy ruler on the quilt to give an idea of the sort of curvy line I thought I would do.

This quilt is about 60" x 60"and I'm quilting it on my JukiTL2010Q

This is the only other direction I can think of. I love your quilt!

...and I'm thinking that the curvy lines should echo each other rather than be random curves? Hmmmm Hulamoon, I hadn't thought about diagonal....

Another option would be cross hatching. It means a lot of twisting & turning of the quilt in the process, but I think your pattern would lend itself to the straight diagonal lines. The spacing could be the width of your blocks.

Personally, I would do the vertical lines through the rows. I am by no means an expert but I would want the curvy lines following the layout design.

Do the gently curvy lines vertically. It will enhance the columns not compete with them. If you do the gently curvy lines horizontally than they will compete with the columns.

Think of it as rain running down the columns.

I would mimic the ribbons but sew only in between them. My other choice would be to go away from lines all together and do something like bows.

A agree with Joy...straight diagonal lines, following your blocks.

I kind of like Lorie's idea of diagonal lines.

Thanks everyone for your input and ideas. I think I will do the vertical lines but rather than running them down each column I'll do as LauraP suggested and run them centrally in the space between each column which will see them slightly overlap the column on either side. Thanks again, appreciated. I think I need to keep the curves this large and gradual for ease with the walking foot...what do you think?Would smaller more sharper curves start looking to busy and disruptive?
