    Default Janome Zig Zag question

I have a Janome 8200 zig zag question. My zig zag does not seem to work on thicker fabric. I'm working on the jelly roll rug and stopped to change the color of the thread to zig zag and it is skipping stitches. I changed the needle, rethreaded the machine, cleaned any lint from the bobbin case and to no avail. it works fine on 2 pieces of fabric, but not on the fabric and batting.
does anyone have any thoughts Click image for larger version.

That looks like the stitch of a sewing machine that needs to be maintenanced. Might be worth having it serviced in a shop.

Perhaps a bigger size needle would help. Perhaps a 16 or jeans needle, that is a lot of bulk to ask it to sew through.

Yes, I was going to suggest a bigger needle, too. For me, thinner needles can get pulled slightly to one side during the stitch process; enough for the bobbin thread to not catch the top thread.

Well, the jean needle worked! I had switched needles this morning to a topstitch 80 from a universal 90...I didn't put 2 and 2 together . It had been zigzagging this morning. Thank you very much!!

I just had it serviced 6 months ago...how often should they be serviced?

If you're stitching through 2 layers of fabric plus batting, I'd recommended Top Stitch 90-14 needles or the jeans needle someone mentioned. I hope things are working well for you now.

I own two Janome machines and both work better when I use Janome needles. Apparently, Janome needles are a tad longer than other needles. My newer machine, a Janome S7, absolutely requires Janome needles. Anything else gives me gaps, from skipped stitches, almost an inch long.
Toni ... If I keep sewing long enough, will they make their own dinner?

I think you need to have at least a 16 or higher to do the jelly roll rug. From what I learn you need a 40 wtg thread also if it is going to be washed a lot. That is what we were told in a demo of one being made. To keep it from bowing they said to press press press with best press it will keep it flat when doing the rows. Good luck. That is next on my list to do.

I have a Baby Lock Crescendo and it will not zig-zag the rug. Any one out there with the same problem?
