Default Which metallic thread is best to use for free motion quilting

    Dear quilters,

I have started a quilt for my sister with material that has metallic print. It looks very nice and i think it will look nice if i do the free motion quilting with gold metallic thread. I have already purchased special metallic machine needles but I think its best to use the best thread that is available. I am using my Viking 690 for this instead of the Janone 1600 because often i have an issue with thread breaking which its hard to solve up till now.

Your advise is very much appreciated

I am following as I may want to quilt with metallics.

I do have an extensive collection of Gutterman metallic threads when I purchased my girlfriend's contents of sewing room when she downsized. She used it on her Husquarvana, so I am guessing that she had no issues with it. If she like something, she bought it in every colour. You might give it try if you can find it in your area.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Every day I try to do one thing that challenges my comfort zone.

I have fmq with some metallics [or tried anyway] but ended up using some "gold" poly embroidery thread instead. I looked as good as the metallic and was much easier to deal with. If you do end up using actual metallics it helps to use a thread net/sleeve to prevent the tread unspooling too fast.

I don't have any experience with metallic threads. You might consider Glide thread as an option. It's a trilobal polyester thread & has a sheen to it; it looks metallic. It's a thinner thread than cotton, so usually the tension needs some adjustment.
